Crucibles are the first step on your way to being a Thaumaturge. They are used to convert Raw Matter (depending on its value) into Vis. There are 2 types of Crucible, which will be explored in this topic.

Crucible ==
This is the first step to understanding Thaumcraft. The Crucible is used to convert Matter into Vis.
To make a Crucible you must place a Cauldron and right-click with Salis Mundus. To work, a Crucible requires a heat source under it, and water inside it. Throw items into the crucible to seperate the different Vis types in the item. If the vis is left alone for too long, it will dissipate into the aura as Flux. Flux can be very dangerous if not properly handled. When seperating the Vis, you can use Glass Phials to collect it, or toss in Quartz Shards to make crystals of the vis. Quartz Shard + 2 Ignis = One Ignis crystal. This works with any vis, be it Desiderium, Vitium, or any other kind of vis.
Thaumatorium[]
The Thaumatorium is essentially an automatic Crucible, making a recipe you select, as long as you provide the required essentia and what you would have to "throw in" in order to create a specific recipe. The Thaumatorium can be used in the Nether since, while the Crucible on the bottom does still require a heat source, it doesn't require water in the Crucible (likely due to the fact the top of the Crucible is covered by the blocks required to MAKE the Thaumatorium). To make a Thaumatorium, you must place, in order from bottom to top:
- A heat source (can be lava or fire)
- A crucible
- Alchemical Construct
- Alchemical construct
Right-click with Salis Mundus on the side you want the selected item's image to face, along with where the product of the essentia and item will drop from.
On the other sides there are slots where you can connect essentia piping from Essentia Smeltries or other more complex means.
